Tips and Tricks: Storing Fabric

Hey there people and Happy Thursday to you! I hope you're having a lovely day, wherever in the world you may be. I have had an exciting week with my lovely new cat bag arriving in the post (except I'm not allowed to have it until my birthday on 23rd November). Which is a total bummer. :(

I have occupied my time by spending hours and hours creating things for the store. What did I make? New jewelry, some more cuddly kitties some canvasses featuring my Curious Cats and Pretty Girls. I have been pretty busy!

Anyhoo, I thought I'd share with you some tips on fabrics and more specifically how to store them. Now, as you all know if you are regular readers of ACLC I live on a fairly tight budget. I try to save money wherever I can. So, when I ordered some lovely plain white cotton recently to make my Crackin' Cushion Covers out of I ordered it in a batch of 20 metres. Which is an excellent idea. However, when it arrived in the post I quickly realised I had a problem and needed a solution stat. Let me show you:

 The fabric went on ....

 ... and on ...

... and on some more past the landing ...

... and all the way across the bedroom!

Clearly action needed to be taken. I had to be able to get to the fabric easily to use it but also keep it neat and tidy in the meantime. I don't have the space for a studio of my own - I share the second bedroom with MHI and all his computery gadgets. So, I needed an easy solution that would be FREE! Here's what I did:

 1. Take an old broom handle that you don't use anymore and remove the broom end.

2. Get annoyed with curious kitties (more specifically Darla) for interfering in your plans (this step is optional btw).

 3. Recruit MHI to help fold the fabric in half width-ways and roll it onto your broom handle bit by bit.

 4. Secure at both ends with hairbands (or elastic bands) and a hairclip.

TA-DA!! Now your fabric is neatly stored and easily accessible!

Simple yet effective - like all the best things in life. Have a great day people!!

ps. Don't forget to come back tomorrow to link up all things Etsy!
