Shine a Light: Creating Calm

Hey there people and Happy Thursday to you. I hope you are having a fabulous day, wherever in the world you may be.

Today it is time for the sixth installment of my shine a light series.

What is Shine a Light all about? It is where I share with you the highs and lows and the fighting spirit that has lead me to where I am today. The spark, the light and the love that gets me through. And sometimes the tears, the frustrations and the setbacks that still ultimately led me to this point. This life. This path.

I only hope that by my telling my story, others will feel inspired to keep going with their own lives and potential difficulties, and perhaps even be inspired to tell their stories too.

Here’s the thing – I am not a trained counselor or therapist or anything like that. The only training I have is the training of life itself. If what I say helps (and I really hope that it does) then that is totally wonderful and I will feel as though my words are working, that I am influencing people in just the right way. But my training has only come from that one place – life. More specifically, my life. You can read my first posts in this series here.

Now, I have spoken before about dealing with difficult times. Sometimes, going hand in hand with this comes creating a feeling and aura of calm. Even when perhaps the world around you or the feelings inside your heart are anything but calm.

Here are my top tips for creating calm in my life - I hope they might prove useful to you too :)

Perfume:

Have a relax perfume as well as a work day perfume. When you first buy your relax perfume only put it on just before bedtime. That way your senses will associate it with relaxation and sleep. Do this for at least a week, possibly two. Then, when you get home from work or finish a busy day, spray on your relax perfume and take a big sniff. You'll feel yourself relax immediately!

Candles:

I love to light some candles in the evening. I find there's something relaxing in the way the flames flicker in the night. I also love some scented candles sometimes, and my BFF brought me some lovely smelling incense back from Sri Lanka recently which I love to burn too.

Food:

I love some comfort food! For me and MHI we love to have a Chinese takeaway on Sunday evenings. It's our little treat. We also love a curry night (you can see my simple curry idea here). I also love to do a bit of baking when I have the time. Here's a simple shortbread recipe that I love.

Reading something inspiring:

Here are some of my favourite inspiring reads ever. I literally devour these and lose myself in these reads, so that nothing else can intrude.

I hope these little hints might be useful to you too, and that they could help to give you the calm you need in the hurly burly, busy world we live in.

Have a great and wonderful day people!

These are excellent tips for nurturing calm in our lives! I am pretty sensitive to perfumes, but I do love essential oils for calming scents too. :)

Thanks for sharing your tips!
